Text/background colors?

Post by FandomSavant »

If a website has a lot of content (a lot of text to read), do you prefer a dark background with lighter text, or a lighter background with darker text?

Light background with dark text here too. I find the opposite makes me see bars for a couple minutes. I like working with either though.
There are shadows before us - but only because the light is at our back.

Yeah, light background with dark text. The opposite can take me a while to get adjusted to, but if the font size is okay and the font colour isn't stark white, I usually do fine.

(I do love seeing dark backgrounds though...! *-*)

Lighter background with dark text is better to read, but I don't mind the opposite (I do it a lot myself, depending on the layout), so long as it's legible and a decent size/contrast. None of this early 00s style with tiny text that seemed designed to blend into the background.

Lighter background with dark text but NOT a high contrast (IE: black on white). Any stark contrast like that is difficult to read for long periods of time. Personally, I prefer a lower contrast with gray on grays or dark grays on a texture.

I definitely agree! Black on white/white on black actually physically hurts me after a while.

Yeah, I'm definitely going large for my shrine content. There's no way to make the reading enjoyable without some size and contrast. :-)

Indeed I do. If I can't read my own writing after a few minutes, I can't expect anyone else to stick around trying. Ha ha. :)
