Forum Reorganisation, Part Two & Community Chatroom

Post by Lethe »

Hi, everyone!

You may have noticed that things have been shuffled around recently. Since the forum launched in August 2012, we have come a long way as a community. As new features were continuously introduced depending on activity and needs, and new topics were made to inform everything one that, some stickies around the forum have become outdated, while others are now obsolete.

The forum is the center of our community. To reduce clutter, optimize things and ensure that Amassment keeps being easy for newcomers to navigate, we have reorganised the forum to make it more cohesive (less bloated) and less confusing. Inactive forums have been merged with others or were removed to be reconceptualized.

Below is an overview of the changes.
  • All forum descriptions have been updated for tone and length uniformity and preciseness.
  • The General Discussion category was renamed to Amassment, which means all Amassment-centric topics now form a unit at the top of the forum.
    • The Events forum was moved up to highlight it as one of our community's features.
    • The subforum Forum Guides was merged with the Ask the Mods forum. It is now called Guides and Help, has better visibility as its own forum and was expanded to cover Amassment as a whole. Feel free to post any of your questions there!
    • Our staff worked hard to update all guides/stickies around the forum, as many of them were outdated, while others needed to be made. Please take a moment to check them out by visiting the Guides Masterpost topic. Take special note that Critique Settings (now called Constructive Criticism) have changed (spicy was removed, sweet is an optional setting), we have a Community Chatroom now (joinnnnnnnn!), and there's an extensive guide that clarifies Event Types.
    • Stickies were updated and shuffled around; unnecessary stickies announcing "new" features have been removed and replaced with an information box at the top of the respective forum. Note, for example, that Constructive Criticism is valid for the Plugs and Shrine Betas forums.
  • Past Marathons and Challenges now have their own Event Archive to boost visibility of current challenge subforums.
  • The Shrine Memes forum has been dissolved due to lack of activity and has been integrated into the Shrine Discussions forum.
  • The Fandoms category was renamed to Media. The former Everything Else forum was renamed to Other Interests and was moved down to Miscellaneous.
  • Due to the shuffling, the General Discussions forum was moved to the bottom as it is the furthest away from shrining. It is now in the Miscellaneous category.
  • The inactive Marketplace forum has been removed for now. Please feel free to post any questions you have regarding our Marketplace in the Guides and Help forum.
I have come across a lot of interesting details while organising these updates and edits, and they truly show how our community is an ever-evolving thing. That wouldn't be possible without all the amazing members here. Here's to us, here's to 2016, here's to an ever-growing Amassment!

If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns, let us know! :star:

Big thank you to everyone who worked on all of the guides! Everything looks great. I'm sure the guides will be super helpful for new members. Thanks for organizing this, Lethe!

The reorganization looks great, too.

Also, loving all the new people who have joined the chat so far!
