Not that I know of. It's for bragging rights essentially.

I sometimes reset only to get more hearts. XD Three hearts is better than one! I think I tried to have a low death count for the Oracle games though. Of course, it's always easier to avoid death when you replay the game enough times anyway.

Soooo here's the epic debate: Should future Zelda games have voice acting or not?

In Link's Awakening DX, if you don't have any deaths there is a special scene at the end.

Oh that's a good question. In Ocarina of Time there is some voice acting. I guess I wouldn't mind it. But I really can't imagine Link actually talking. The other characters would be find, just not Link. And it depends on who the voice actors would be, I'm picky to that sort of thing.

I read that one reason there has not been a Zelda movie is because Link doesn't talk, and I read that they purposefully did not give Link a voice because they felt it would take away from the player's experience. I guess part of the experience is imagining what the characters would sound like.

I wouldn't mind voice acting. Actually, I think the cut scenes at the beginning of Skyward Sword would have been more entertaining with voice acting. The first portion of the game was like watching a movie anyway.

Yes, Link should have voice acting besides his usual grunts. Nintendo is sooooo behind on the whole voice acting thing. In Skyward Sword, the characters' mouth movements aren't even in sync with the songs that they sing (i.e. FI. SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE'S SCREAMING IN PAIN.).

If they want to establish Link as an audience surrogate character, they should at least give everyone else voice acting then. I'm kind of tired of seeing cutscenes with only voice samples.

That all makes sense. I've seen fanmade Zelda movie previews (which are good and interesting) and there isn't any talking. I think maybe another reason for no movie would be that if they mess up the movie they might think they will lose fans or something. "The games are doing so great. Do they really need a movie?" Might also be what they are thinking. Sometimes movie adaptions don't go great. Just a thought though.

Oh that sounds cool. I still need to play that one. Maybe Snow and I will pick up Zelda next.

@Joe, I think I would be good with that. As I'm stuck on Link having talking lines. I hope they fix the syncing.

Personally I don't mind that there is no voice acting in the Zelda games, because I like to imagine what all the characters would sound like and such. However, when I think about another game that semi-recently had voice acting added more often than just boss fights I can think of the benefits to it. My sister, for example, is usually turned off by games that have no voice acting due to the fact that her reading ability isn't so great and she hates having to read all that text. So yeah, that's just my two cents.

That makes sense. Sometimes I don't feel like reading and just wanna listen to the voices. And there is sometimes when reading the text on the screen strains my eyes. I'm good either way. (Also Crystal I like you avatar.) My sister gets a little upset at voice acting sometimes, because she read faster than they talk. And not all voice acting is good, I mean that I guess it might not get recorded properly and so it sounds terrible. Or the girl's voice is just too high-pitched. Now I'm re-thinking Legend of Zelda voice acting.

Lol, this is true. Sometimes voice acting makes me want to cringe because it's so bad (a certain boss in WoW comes to mind). Some are also very well done though so it can be a bit of a toss up.

(Lol, thanks Cherri. xD)

It's a hard decision for me really. On one hand, like Crystal, I had fond memories of actually reading the dialogue with "improvisations", but on the other, I do feel like it's starting to feel outdated with the rest of society.

I understand why Link may not have a voice, as he's considered an avatar for the player (which, btw, I never really get since Link does too many characteristic things especially in Wind Waker and Skyward Sword that he feels like his own character - though I think I'd rather have grunting than a full voice anyway), but there really is no reason everyone else shouldn't have other than for tradition's sake. We're slowly moving to a society where voice acting in games is the norm now, and the more dated Nintendo is, the less people they may attract for future games.
