Help with lit guides

Long story short I'm taking an exam in general English literature pretty soon. I figured based on the conversations in this thread that there are a lot of lit. buffs here, so I was wondering if there's any guides or notes you recommend me to look over before I enter the demon's lair? Like, maybe timelines or lists of authors in said eras?
