Yeah, I agree, Jo! They don't need all that information!

So I am on MiiVerse now and it's.....ok. It's good for minimal conversations and sharing screenshots within communities. I like drawing pictures, haha. But the set-up is weird and I honestly really hate the whole THOU SHALT NOT GIVE SPOILERS. I mean, you can write it and tag it as a spoiler but I think people get really out of hand about not wanting to be spoiled. People are going to talk about. Just my opinion...

I think it's pretty fun it you like reading what other people are saying. The interaction between users is fairly limited and you can't actually search for communities.

It's a nice feature but it's definitely not something that could work on its own.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo has their own reasons but all I can think of is that they're freakin' old-fashioned and new to establishing their own social network. I mean, part of the reason why the Wii U is a flop is because the games Nintendo publishes are for their platforms only, they region-lock their games, and lots of 3rd party developers don't like the exclusivity of their system.

There are tons of ways Nintendo could have improved SwapNote to eliminate future threats, like remove photo and voice attachments (like Todd mentioned) or the possibility of having a button to report inappropriate messages. But all of that sounds like too much work and I bet they currently don't have the funds nor the effort to assemble a moderating team, so instead they flipped out and shut it down with a hasty apology.

It's pretty dumb on Nintendo's part because they should have expected these sorts of things would happen. Inappropriate messaging has existed since FOREVER. Wow, child predators online! Wow, parents not taking enough caution to monitor what their kids are writing to strangers on the Internet! Wow, what a phenomenon, tell me MORE about this novelty!

Oh my Jo. That. Is. Great. I agree with it. I understand why Nintendo recalled it but I think had they taken more steps they could have avoided it. Then again the reason might be because parents got involved. I don't know though. My mom monitored my internet usage until I was 18 and she still actually does continue from time to time.
